Who We Are

In 1992 a small group of ladies in Goldthwaite, Texas, decided to meet together to quilt. The group was made up of many who had never quilted before but were anxious to learn, along with a few experienced quilters. An empty room was located in the Courthouse and it proved to be an excellent place to quilt. When deciding on the name for the group, someone saw the old traditional quilt pattern “Courthouse Steps” and the ladies immediately decided on that name for their club.

The ladies are united by a love of quilting, but also by a desire to give back to the community. They have made donation quilts for many local organizations: Mills County Museum, Historical Commission, Jennie Trent Dew Library, Courthouse Renovation, Mills County Senior Citizens, WAV Project. Donations have been made to the Botanical Gardens also. We have given small quilts and pillowcases for mothers and their children who come to the WAV Shelter as well as small quilts for the Hamilton Hospital Auxiliary for their pediatric patients. Quilts were also given to victims of the Bastrop fires in 2011.
The Club sponsored their first quilt show in 1992. The show grew in size and reputation through the years and the 21st show was no exception! We have now made the decision to discontinue having the quilt show. It was a difficult decision and we are all saddened at that decision. We are moving forward in different ways. A quilt class will be offered in May. See the "Calendar of Events" page for further information regarding that class.
We are grateful to the community for the support of our shows through the years. We will continue to quilt on Tuesdays at the Courthouse and will be looking for other ways to make contributions to our community.
